Bark from this tree is used to prepare a light decoction and is used for sexual impotency, agitation, nervousness, nerve pain and weakness, poor memory or forgetfulness, and sexual weakness. The chemical constituents found in catuaba include alkaloids (yohimbine), tannins, aromatic oils and fatty resins, phytosterols, cyclolignans, sesquiterpenes, and flavonoids which make it an effective aphrodisiac.
