Physcion is extracted from the root of Rhubarb, a plant of the family Polygonaceae. It is a traditional Chinese herb rich in bismuth (emodin, emodin methyl ether), styrene glycosides, phospholipids (such as lecithin) and tannic acid, wherein styrene glycoside is a marker compound .
